Maud Jeffries (1869 - 1946) Born in Mississippi she made her first appearance in New York in 1889. Played together with Wilson Barrett in Shakespeare. Toured in Australia with Barrett and later with Julius Knight. In the above cabinet card you can see her in the role of Mercia in the very popular play "Sign of the Cross" written by Wilson Barrett. Married James Nott Osbourne. Manuscript dedication and signature "With kindest wishes from Maud Jeffries. 23rd March 1896". Photograph by W.D.Downey, London. Sizes ca 4 1/4 x 6 1/2 inches / 109 x 165 mm. Condition is near excellent with some very mild wear of mount at corners. Original is sharp, and slightly darker toned. Price € 100 Reserved |
