British educator and with others founder of the British public school system.
Became bishop of Calcutta and metropolitan bishop of India, Burma and
Ceylon (Sri Lanka).
Also in India he dealt with education questions and did much to establish
schools.
Cdv by Hills & Saunders, Oxford of probably a painting. ca 1870.
Size ca 2 1/4 x 3 3/8 inches (photo) and 2 3/8 x 4 1/8 inches (mount).
Condition is very good. Back of mount with some paper loss.
Original is slightly browner toned (scan shows a bit greenish).
