Thomas Bruce, Lord Elgin and Kincardine, 7th earl of Elgin (1766- 41).
British diplomat in Brussels, Berlin and Constantinople and art collector.
In 1802 he decided to remove the marble friezes from the Parthenon and ship
them to Scotland as ornaments for his new country house. He sold the so called
"Elgin marbles" to the British Museum in 1816.

Size ca 2 3/8 x 4 6/8 inches.
Condition is good with at right lower corner some crushing and discolouring at edges. Original is light brown and a bit darker toned. Mount not cut
straight.
