Aimable Jean Jaques Pélissier 1794-1864. French general and after the Crimea war diplomat for France in London and Germany. Till his dead governor-general of Algeria. He fought in Algeria and was in 1855 commander of the army that besieged Sebastopol and took over the control of fort Malakoff or Malakow. Subsequently became marshall of France and when returning to France was given the title of Duc de Malakoff. Vintage salt print by Roger Fenton, ca 1855-56. Sized ca. 4 5/8 x 6 1/4 inches / 118 x 158 mm. Condition is fair/good - with a darker toned stain on his arm together with some surface loss; a tiny emulsion chip on his pants and a very minor scuff at right upper part. Palish at left edge. Edges trimmed. Original is sharp and brown toned (lighter areas are light brown, NOT greenish). Scan is slightly enlarged. Sold |
