Daniel MacLise (1806-1870). Irish Painter. He made portraits of the literary and other celebrities of his time and made also illustrations for Dickens' books. His was a forerunner of the Pre-Raphaelites but his work is visibly influenced by them. His work can be found in museums around Britain. Albumen photograph by Maull & Polyblank, London. 1858. Mounted on original Maull & Polyblank paper mount. Size ab. 7 7/8 x 5 3/4 inches (photo) and 12 x 10 inches (mount). The photograph comes together with a contemporary biography from the July 1858 edition of "Photographic portraits of living celebrities". Condition is, except for tiny spots, very good. Sold |
